Management Systems Auditing

Organisations may require management systems audits for a variety of reasons, e.g.:

  • As a “Gap Analysis” to provide a benchmark prior to implementation of a system.
  • As a “Readiness Evaluation” as a final check prior to a certification body audit.
  • To ensure impartiality and independence of the audit process for internal audits as required by ISO 9001:2008. (And ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001)

Consulting Interventions

1. EDS will facilitate the development of a management system (based on the requirements of ISO 9001:2008) from the beginning, and ensure that adequate attention is given to the issues of personnel competence and motivation. EDS will stay with the project until certification is achieved, if this is the intention, or until the organisations’ management are satisfied that the system has been implemented as defined at the contract stage, if certification is not required.

2. EDS offers a system maintenance service, if required. The specific services to be provided, and frequency of visits, will be defined at the contract stage. These services include conducting internal audits on behalf of the company, conducting supplier audits if required, and facilitating management reviews.

3. If the organisation has a system that is not delivering the benefits expected and merely provides a certificate on the wall, EDS can offer an upgrade service, whereby the existing system is revised and the issues of personnel competency and motivation incorporated into the system. The organisations’ specific requirements will be defined at the contract stage.

4. Alternative management systems, e.g. environmental or occupational health and safety systems, or integrated systems, can also be catered for.

Training offered

1. The EDS Management Systems Development course is a three-day course aimed at providing individuals (personnel who will be involved in the development of the system within the organisation) with an understanding of the process of developing a management system, incorporating the critical issues of personnel competence and motivation. The courses are presented in-house, usually as a component of the consulting intervention. The courses can also be presented at public venues, if the demand exists.

2. In addition to the above, awareness and auditing training is provided as part of the consulting intervention, when EDS facilitates the development and implementation of a management system. These courses may also be presented at public venues.

3. EDS also presents half-day seminars. These are aimed at management level. The aim of the seminars is to provide management with a broad understanding of the need for systems, personnel competency and motivation in running a successful organisation. The seminars may be presented in-house, or at public venues, and can cater for up to fifty delegates.
