About EDS

Effective Documented Systems is an independent management system consulting service. The services offered by EDS are based on the philosophy that any effective organisation requires systems, competent personnel and motivated personnel.

EDS interventions are intended to provide client organisations with these basic necessities. EDS provides systems based on the principles defined in ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems – Requirements. Client organisations may or may not decide to have the system assessed for certification purposes by a third-party Certification Body. Either way, the organisation will benefit from having a logically structured and documented management system. The “Missing Link” in many ISO 9001:2008 based management systems is that when the system is implemented, inadequate attention is given to the competency and motivation issues. These are addressed comprehensively in EDS interventions.

Management systems based on other standards can also be catered for, e.g. ISO 14001 for environmental management systems or OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety management systems, ISO 22000 for food safety, Forestry Stewardship Council Chain of Custody,  or integrated systems incorporating all or any of the above standards.

Martin has a variety of experience, from public service, armed forces and construction to management systems implementation and certification. He has a Certificate of Competency in Geotechnology from the Rhodesia Government, and a Diploma in Advanced Quality Management from Executive Education. He is an IRCA (U.K.) Lead Auditor. He was previously a member of the Zimbabwe Institute of Management, and an Associate Member of the Zimbabwe Institute of Personnel Management.
He has been involved in quality management since 1989, initially as a quality manager, implementing systems and taking them through the certification process.
He then spent some time with SGS International Certification Services as an auditor and tutor for management systems auditing training.
Thereafter, Martin spent five years as a management systems consultant, before joining TUV Rheinland in South Africa as a management systems auditor.
He then established EDS as an independent consultancy in 2007.
